Florida BP Claims Fund Assistance

The full impact on the State of Florida—its citizens, businesses and tourist destinations— from the oil spill at BP’s Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling platform in the Gulf of Mexico has yet to be fully calculated. Millions of individuals and businesses suffered from the pollution to Florida’s beaches and the media coverage of the disaster didn’t nothing to help. In particular the sudden and cataclysmic decline of tourism along Florida’s Gulf Coast affected almost every single industry and has been devastating to Florida’s economy. Whether you visit Tampa, Panama City, Clearwater, or Pensacola, you will find individuals with stories of how their incomes or businesses took a drastic hit due to the BP oil spill.

Starting Monday, June 4th, 2012 anyone who suffered spill-related losses or injuries and hasn’t already accepted a final settlement from BP through the former Gulf Coast Claims Facility will be able to apply under the new claims process.

It’s a new era for thousands of victims of BP’s 2010 Gulf oil spill, as facilities supervised by a federal judge will start taking economic-loss and medical claims and begin paying them based on the strict terms of a negotiated settlement. The Deepwater Horizon Claims Center, run by court-appointed administrator Patrick Juneau, will open 18 intake centers across the Gulf Coast next week to accept claims of economic and business losses. Its central offices take up three floors of the Exchange Centre building in downtown New Orleans.
